This achievement is particularly noteworthy as it includes certification of the dental unit chair N2, completing a fully integrated “dental solution” that spans implant fixtures, prosthetics, surgical kits, and treatment environments. <p>MEGAGEN IMPLANT Co., Ltd. (CEO Kwang-Beom Park, hereafter “Megagen”) has concluded the seven continental rounds of its next-generation global speaker discovery project, “MEGA’MIND 2026,” finalizing a total of 21 finalists. With more than 400 participants from over 60 countries, this year’s competition has established itself as one of the largest international contest programs in the field of dentistry and a premier stage for discovering future leaders in global implant education.</p>
<p>Now in its fourth year, MEGA’MIND goes beyond a simple presentation contest by comprehensively evaluating clinical excellence, the reliability of research data, the systematic analysis of cases, and presentation delivery skills. Following preliminary rounds held from May to November last year, selected participants competed fiercely in the continental rounds beginning in February. Ultimately, the top three participants from each continent—21 finalists in total—earned spots on the final stage in Toronto this June.</p>
<p>This season was also significant for becoming the first dental competition to introduce a real-time AI translation system, lowering barriers to global academic exchange. The continental rounds were livestreamed worldwide through the official website, and presentations were translated in real time so audiences everywhere could easily follow the content. Viewers were able to select their preferred language, creating an environment where clinical cases and treatment strategies could be shared without language barriers between countries. Industry observers praised the initiative, saying it “set a new standard for international academic platforms.”</p>
<p>Among this year’s competition stages, the Korean round stood out the most. Korea has consistently been recognized as one of the most competitive regions in the competition, known for its high level of clinical sophistication and logically structured presentations. In particular, this year’s Korean round was hosted by Military Doctor Chanyoung Park, winner of MEGA’MIND 2024. Participants captured the attention of the judging panel by presenting a series of highly complex cases, including full-mouth rehabilitation procedures. <p>The judging panel included Director Hyunsik Park (Heim Dental Clinic, Prosthodontics), Professor Hobum Kwon (Department of Prosthodontics, Seoul National University Dental Hospital), Professor Byungeun Yang (Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital), and Professor Joongseok Lee (Department of Periodontics, Yonsei University Dental Hospital). Fair evaluations were conducted across 10 criteria, including clinical excellence, document organization, the completeness of research and data, and presentation attitude.</p>
<p>After intense competition, the three finalists selected from Korea were Military Doctor Seongjin Kim (Medical Battalion, 12th Infantry Division of the Republic of Korea Army), Director Jeongju Kim (Meister Dental Clinic), and Assistant Professor Yerim Oh (Dankook University Jukjeon Dental Hospital). They were recognized for elevating the overall quality of the competition stage through more sophisticated case analyses and data-driven presentations compared to last year. The finalists stated, “We will prepare even more thoroughly for the final round and clearly demonstrate the strength of Korean clinicians on the global stage.”</p>
<p>The final round will take place on June 19 in Toronto alongside the Megagen Implant International Symposium. “Implant loading paradigm: from waiting to certainty”
Accessible in any situation—regardless of bone quality or ridge condition

In implant dentistry, the use of immediate and early loading protocols is increasingly expanding as a means to reduce treatment time and improve patient satisfaction. However, challenges such as achieving sufficient primary stability, variability in predictability depending on bone quality, and the temporary decrease in stability that typically occurs around three weeks after placement (the so-called “stability dip”) continue to make clinicians cautious about early loading.

<h4>“Filling the gap of stability”</h4>
The Accelerated Loading Concept is not simply about advancing the timing of loading, but rather about achieving faster, more precise, and more predictable clinical outcomes by enhancing initial mechanical stability and accelerating biological stability.

Implant stability can be divided into mechanical stability at the time of placement and biological stability during the osseointegration process. Typically, mechanical stability is high immediately after placement but gradually decreases over time, while biological stability progressively increases as osseointegration occurs. The period around three weeks after placement—when these two forms of stability intersect—is known as the “stability dip,” during which overall stability temporarily declines. This has long been one of the major obstacles to early loading.

MegaGen’s Accelerated Loading approach minimizes this transition gap by combining strong initial fixation with accelerated bone formation. Through this strategy, the company states that it enables stable osseointegration and predictable treatment outcomes under a wide range of clinical conditions.

<h4>A strategy that goes beyond the limitations of bone quality</h4>
In general bone conditions (D1–D3), the key to the Accelerated Loading Concept lies in achieving high initial stability and rapid osseointegration.

According to MegaGen, this concept has demonstrated in key human studies that even in D4 bone quality, insertion torque (ITV) was maintained above 40 Ncm. In addition, 39 out of 40 implants recorded ISQ values above 70, indicating a stability range suitable for early loading. Notably, these cases showed no typical temporary dip in ISQ values, maintaining consistently stable readings throughout. The company attributes these outcomes to core technologies applied in the AnyRidge and BLUEDIAMOND implant systems.

First, the XPEED Surface technology is based on a calcium titanate nano-structured surface that enhances protein and cell adhesion while promoting osteoblast activity, thereby accelerating bone formation. Compared to conventional SLA surfaces, it achieves higher bone-to-implant contact (BIC), supporting faster and more reliable osseointegration.

In addition, the specialized Knife Thread design reduces compressive stress during insertion, minimizing bone trauma and preserving bone architecture. It also increases surface area to achieve higher BIC, while the thread spacing is designed to be up to four times wider than conventional systems, allowing improved blood supply and faster bone healing.

Attention is also drawn to the design philosophy that separates the implant core and thread as independent elements. The optimal core diameter is selected based on occlusal load requirements, while thread depth can be adjusted flexibly according to bone quality.

In particular, the high-strength BLUEDIAMOND implant utilizes this technology to secure both superior mechanical strength and primary stability even in limited clinical conditions, enabling the realization of Accelerated Loading protocols.

Alveolar bone resorption, resulting in ridge deficiency, is one of the main factors that complicates implant placement.

As a solution, MegaGen proposes the “ARi Solution,” which utilizes the concept of engaging the non-resorbing basal bone. Since basal bone remains stable over time, it allows for reliable implant placement regardless of the condition of the resorbed alveolar ridge. For this purpose, a cuff design is applied in the coronal portion to minimize the risk of peri-implantitis even if the thin residual bone resorbs and becomes exposed. In the apical portion, a roughened surface is applied to ensure stable osseointegration with the basal bone. Instead of relying on GBR in the cuff region, contourization is performed to preserve soft tissue volume.

In addition, the BD Cuff is designed to maintain stability even in dehiscence situations, effectively addressing clinical challenges such as narrow posterior ridges or defect ridges. Based on Professor Tomas Linkevicius’s “Zero Bone Loss” concept, it features a machined cuff of more than 2 mm, forming a soft tissue zone exceeding 4 mm to suppress crestal bone loss around the implant neck. This allows clinicians to use implants with appropriate functional diameters without relying on narrow implants or GBR, while establishing a stable soft tissue environment.

In South Korea, implant dentistry has traditionally shown a strong preference for preserving individual teeth and placing implants in partial restorations rather than full-mouth rehabilitation. The MegaGen Full Mouth Solution achieves an even higher level of completeness when combined with a digital workflow.

One of the most challenging aspects in treating edentulous patients is establishing vertical dimension (VD) and performing the diagnostic process. Traditionally, these steps relied on bite rims and manual procedures, which had limitations in terms of accuracy and reproducibility.

However, the QVD system and Dental Avatar-based platform from R2studioQ integrate CBCT, facial scans, and intraoral scan data to generate a three-dimensional virtual patient. Key parameters such as the midline, smile line, occlusal plane, and vertical dimension are automatically analyzed using AI technology, allowing optimal diagnostic values to be established.

The determined vertical dimension, along with occlusal records and wax-ups, can then be exported as STL files for the fabrication of surgical guides and the design of provisional teeth.
